Comments About 49th MD308 Lions Convention From Delegates:

Dear Council Chairperson,

The recent Convention held in Ipoh is indeed highly commendable, so far it is the best Convention I ever attended. Knowing full well of the ability of the Organizing Committee led by Dato’ Foo Wan Kien who has all the innovation to create something so unique and so well synchronized , the Organizing Committee must have put in so much effort in doing so.

However I feel sad to see that the Committee had not been recognized or to be crude, they were sabotaged. I am surprised why the Organizing Committee was not even asked to represent in giving of the memento to Sultan. And in the closing session normally the bannerette supposed to be handed over from the hosting committee to the incoming committee, why the Organizing Chairman was not representing? This showed a poor leadership quality of the Council. I feel hard work should be recognized, otherwise all conventions will be quite stale as no encouragement is given.

I become a Lion because of the appreciation recognized after hard work because Lionism is no monetary rewards to any efforts putting in, but the recognization will be given the spirit to more Lions and young lions to follow the path of the leaders.

Of course I do not say that the Convention was fully well run especially on the transportation which could be improved better. Or overall it was a fantastic effort by the Organizing Committee.

IPOH: More than 1,800 delegates from Lions clubs in Southeast Asia attended the Lions Club 49th Multiple District 308 Convention held here recently.

The four-day programme included high tea with Sultan of Perak Sultan Azlan Shah, a charity golf tournament, lunch with the underprivileged, and placement of palm prints on Lions Milliennium Time Capsule Monument, among others.

Guest-of-honour Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir launched the convention fellowship dinner.
Zambry also commended Lions for serving the community, especially in humanitarian work.

Council chairman Wong Chang Wai said Ipoh was the host for the convention attended by members of four districts, mainly Brunei, Malaysia and Singapore.

Appreciation awards were later presented to the convention organising committee members.
The convention also saw a cheque presentation of funds raised in aid of the Japan tsunami victims.

District governor 308B Mah Yau Chuen presented mock cheques for USD30,000 (RM90,000) and USD41,000 (RM123,000) to the past international director Ellis Suriyati Omar. — By Diana Yeoh

Dear Chairperson PDG Dato Dr Foo Wan Kien

The MD Convention and District 308-A1 were successfully concluded last week.

I write to express my appreciation to you and your Committee members for all your assistance.

The organisation of a Convention is not an easy task but you and your Committee members have done very well.

I must place on record the help and co-operation that both Lion Woo Ping and Lion Wong Chow Huan have extended to the District in the change of venues and the quick response and action taken by them. There were some anxious moments but the calm and professional manner in which they have reacted and responded was most encouraging and comforting. They have conducted themselves most professionally and true to the Lions spirit.

Overall, the Convention was enjoyable and there was good fellowship. More important, it was an opportunity for the Lions from the 4 Districts to work together and bond in friendship and fellowship.

I agree that Love Makes Everything Possible.

Dear Lion John Woo,

Let me applaud the opening ceremony of the convention which was very grand indeed. To have the Sultan himself be there to grace the occasion with his presence certainly gave the event a significance and made it all the more memorable. This was especially so for some of the member of our Lions Club of Singapore – Beverly Hills who were attending such convention for the first time and the presence of such an important figure amongst their midst reinforced the importance of our Lions movement.

Overall, we truly appreciate the organizing committee for all their ardent efforts in making all the respective districts come together to celebrate the Lionism. This was truly amazing.

Well done! Hip Hip Hooray!!!

My dear members of the Convention Organising Committee,

The 49th MD 308 Lions Convention is now over after months of preparation.

The event would not have taken place if not for the untiring effort and sacrifices put in by all of you.

There were many challenging moments in organising this Convention. I was with some of you and I understand the struggle and frustration you have gone through. Some of you are truly outstanding and display the true Lions Spirit of service at its highest level.

The past is history. Nobody knows when Ipoh will be given another chance to organise a MD Lions Convention given the rotation system.

My best wishes to you and thank you for doing your best.
